It was another great field trial for amateur handlers. We had 106 entries which put us into the profit side of field trials. Handlers came as far away as Louisiana and Kansas.

Stephanie won the first annual "Field Fashion Award". Seems she has a different wardrobe for horseback and walking stakes. We had to delay the whole trial so that she could change her clothes.

MAY FUN DAY

A big thank you to Theresa and Ed for sharing their home and grounds with us. We hope you will do it again!

MVVC Fun Day & Club Meeting

May 20, 2006

The attendance at the Fun Day this year was disappointing. However, for those who did attend it was a great opportunity to have some fun with your dogs.

Theresa and Ed put a lot of effort into getting their property ready for the day’s events. They have a lovely pond, large yard area and trails cut into the woods. We started out doing some water retrieving. The dogs loved it and the owners had fun watching their dogs enjoy swimming and jumping into the water. We also did some bird work. It was enjoyable to see even the old dogs get into the act. The day ended with plenty of good food and conversation

MVVC SPECIALTY

The 2006 Specialty has come and gone. Whew! How nice that 2006 is an event to reminisce about and June 2007 is now something to look forward to. The entry of 75+ dogs was as it has been in the past few years. This year to compensate for the high numbers and the inevitable darkness, we held part of the judging outdoors and the final classes indoors. Since judging did not end until after 9:30, this move worked out very well.

Financially, this was one of our most profitable shows yet. This was due in part to the high number of advertisers and the various trophy donations made to cover trophy expenses. See below for the semi-complete financial report.

Sweepstakes was judged by our own Theresa Miller. She not only presented a lovely picture herself, she made exhibitors comfortable and chose lovely dogs who were very good representatives. Thank you for accepting the assignment and having fun with it.

Thanks to the hard work of several individuals the Specialty went smoothly.

  • We had a new show secretary this year, Mary Lee Raines (non-club member). Mary Lee has never even been to a breed show before. She handled the job admirably and has learned more than she ever wanted to know about dog shows ?. If needed, she is ready to take on next year with a little more understanding and lot more knowledge.
  • Margaret Schaefer did a lovely job on trophies as she always does. The compliments on the trophy table were many.
  • The catalog, organized and printed by Rhoda Ezell, was beautiful. With a record number of 26 advertisers, the catalog was not only worth viewing it was quite profitable as well.
  • Ann Craig took on the raffle this year and ran with it. The items were unique and made for a raffle to be admired.
  • Cindy Nix helped with the trophy distribution and Jen Miller helped with catalog sales.
  • Diana Boggs made a lovely snack and drink basket for the specialty judge and helped get her ready and organized before the show.
  • Rick Bokanyi (non-club member) did his usual fabulous job as ring steward, making sure that the right dogs ended up in the ring and that all spectators knew the placements.
  • Mike Lifer sold candles to benefit rescue.
  • Jan Wallace has become photographer extraordinaire! The pictures for the website are fantastic and actually put you there. The visual documentation is wonderful. Make sure you check it out.

Thank you each and every one of you. It has been a true pleasure to work with you all.

Respectfully submitted,
Pam Williams

RESCUE CORNER

Welcome Susan Hall to MVVC Indiana Vizsla rescue!
shall@secor.com
317-294-7292

My name is Susan Hall, I live on the northside of Indianapolis and work as an environmental consultant. I first heard about the Miami Valley Vizsla Club almost three years ago when I started looking for a Vizsla. There were no dogs avaliable for some time so I got my first Vizsla "Abby," Labor Day of 2004. I feel in love from day one! This spring I was on the website and saw that Indiana need a rescue coordinator. I contacted Pam Williams and that brings me to where I am today. I look forward to getting more involved in the club and socializing Abby with other Vizslas. I am also currently training to show in obedience and am thinking of giving agility a try.

Welcome, Jo Anne Davies, to Temproary MVVC Ohio/West Virginia Vizsla rescue!

Holly Hatfield, 502-266-7236 redrivervizslas@insighbb.com, MVVC Coordinator & KY

The past few months have been busy busy for rescue. I have taken over Rescue Chair, we have a new IN coordinator, dogs coming in, and dogs being placed, there's not enough "thanks" in the book to describe how fortunate I feel to have the volunteers I have looking out for the bottom line....the dog.

First I want to welcome Susan Hall as our new coordinator for Indiana. To put it short, Susan got a baptism by fire of sorts, and handled her first case with sheer professionalism. Welcome aboard Susan, I look forward to working with you and value your contribution to the welfare of Vizsla Rescue.

Next, I would like to thank all volunteers who have fostered, transported, and helped place the dogs that have come through our program recently. You truly are the heart and soul of the breed and by opening your homes and hearts you truly define the bottom line....the love of the dog. I look forward to working with each of you and am open to your suggestions and thoughts on how to better our rescue program.

Finally...on to our successes.

Otis has been adopted to a young family in Louisville, KY. He is adapting very well and they LOVE this dog. I had the opportunity to finally meet this puppy and can without doubt say he is truly living a spoiled Vizsla's life. Thanks Susan for offering to foster Otis.

Dutch has found a home in Versailles, KY. He is the shining star of the home and has wiggled his way into the hearts of all. Thank you to Ann Craig and the Congleton family for helping foster this lovely boy.

Bella has found her special home in Michigan. Thanks to Barbara Fiocchi & Pam Williams for working with Caroline DeFore in placing this special girl.

Champ went to his new home in May after spending some time with Karen Fischesser.

Ginger decided to stay with Barbara Whitaker. Guess she wiggled her way right into her home. Thanks Barbara for giving this lady a special home.

Annie has been placed in a home in Michigan. Thanks to her foster dad, Mike Lifer for opening his home to this girl.

Pam has requested to resign from her seat as coordinator after years of dedicated service. We have found Jo Anne Davies to fill her position. I realize those are some BIG shoes to fill, but I am confident that Pam will do an excellent job of welcoming and assisting Jo Anne until she is familiar with the territory.

Until next time..stay cool, enjoy the summer, and hug your Vizslas!!

DOGS AVAILABLE

This morning a picked up a stray vizsla from the Shelbyville Animal Shelter. Her name is Copper, she is approximately 3 yrs old and her past is virtually unknown. Copper is shorter then the standard and her tail is cropped too short. Her snout is gray and her dew claws haven't been removed. She has been spayed and is current on shots.

I will be receiving her medical records that her previous owner had sometime next week. She was first found tied up in a trailer park, no one would claim her nor would they give her to the shelter. She somehow escaped and was found 12 miles away. They were able to catch her and bring her in. She was then adopted out to a family that had a boxer however; they ended up going to through a divorce and had to give one dog away, which was Copper.

What I know about Copper: she seems to have a good temperment, once she gets to know you she enjoys affection, she is good with other dogs however doesn't really understand how to play, I have been told that she is house trained, she does not have much training and comes sometimes when called but not always.

Please let me know if you could assist with the rescue. Also if anyone could assit in fostering Copper it would be most appreciated.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Thanks to all who worked so very hard on events since the last newsletter:

Paul Grice and Greg King are Co-chairs and Jan Wallace for running the field trial so efficiently!

Theresa Miller and crew for the work for the Fun day where four members appeared. Needles to say we need to re-think the dates and the reality of holding a Fun Day when it is so sparsely attended.

Matt Rogers, Mike Lifer for stepping up to the line and chair/secty for the Hunt Test. They had help from experienced members, but they took a chance and agreed to step into the unknown. Thank You for being so brave.

Pam Williams and the Specialty crew. Pam’s report is posted above, but it was well run, very successful and people from as far away as the Carolinas promised to be back next year. Brooke (Folley) Counts is taking over the Specialty Chair job. Great that the next generation is moving into chair jobs!

As you will note by the red in the list below we need some volunteers, or we will not be holding the event. If you are new to the club and want to help, but need mentoring, just let me know.. If you are experienced in running the event and want a mentor, let me know and we will entice the newbies :>)

Be there
or let me know if you are willing to chair, secretary, help at any of the following MVVC events.

August, 2006

August 12 MVVC/VCGC Versatility
August 12 MVVC Club Meeting

September, 2006

Sept 9 & 10 MVVC Walking Field Trial- NEED SECRETARY AND CHAIR(s) ASAP

October, 2006

Oct 14 & 15 MVVC Field Trial - Chair: Theresa Miller. Sectretary: Jan Wallace

Oct 17-27 VCA National Events – Dover, DE

I think I got all the dates right-if the corresponding date calendar is right…

Board Report:
New Membership Chair

The MVVC Officers, Board and members want to welcome Karen Derlatka as the new membership chair. We also want to thank Marcia Folley for also offering to take on the position.

A new Membership Application is up with all of the correct (I hope) information in place.

Again thanks to both Karen and Marcia for stepping forward when a plea cor volunteers was issued.

There is a ballot waiting for deadline that will:

  • Elect new members into membership-some have been waiting almost a year for a quorum
  • Make a decision regarding the Board meeting via a regular conference call.

As soon as the dealline is past for the ballot to be returned, I will post the results.

Happy hunting, showing, competing or just being with your Vizsla!
