The specialty is going along well so far. The date is June 17, 2006. We have judges.

  • Sweepstakes: Our own Theresa Miller.
  • Specialty: Paula Nykiel.

The new secretary is Mary Lee Raines. maryleebc@earthlink.net. Premiums will be available as soon as I have time to review it ?. They will be available on the web site. Hard copies will be available only upon request. Notification of availability will be posted to the MVVC list.

We need trophy donations! Please contact Margaret eschaefe@columbus.rr.com as soon as possible. The format is pretty much what it has been in the past. Sweepstakes with the Echo Hills All breed show Saturday morning. The Specialty will be in the evening after the All-breed Best in Show. The main difference is that the regular classes will be outdoors and the non-regular classes will be indoors.

We do need volunteers to: sell raffle tickets, order and pick up the specialty food, and judges hospitality. Please let me know if you are interested in helping with this event. I look forward to hearing from you.

RESCUE CORNER

GENERAL NEWS: There has been lots of activity in OH recently. I have been getting lots of inquiries though of course they are for young dogs (less than 1 year old) or puppies. Not too many of those end up in rescue. I’ll list the dogs in need of a home below.

The major issues facing MVVC’s rescue program are now two fold. As I have asked before, we need a coordinator for Ohio and West Virginia. I wanted to turn over the position last fall. I am suffering from a case of burn out and want to prevent it from getting worse plus I am hoping for a change in my schedule. At the very latest there must be a volunteer by the end of the summer. The second issue facing MVVC’s rescue program is that Lisa Anderson (Toth) has moved to NY and needs to be replaced also as the IN coordinator and MVVC’s Rescue Chair. I would be happy to discuss the positions with anyone who would like more information. Up until the last few years, I was the coordinator for OH, WV, IN and KY. It is not impossible to handle several areas. I decided to split it up because it was just a long time for me to do it alone.

Once again, I must thanks Karen Fischesser for always putting everything she can into saving these rescues. Karen responded to the call for help with a young male in Union County, OH. She drove well over 200 miles round trip to pick up the dog and is currently fostering him. Thanks to her we can find an appropriate home after his evaluation and fattening up period.

"Champ"

2 – 3 year old male currently in foster care with Karen F. White on chest, feet and small amount on top of head. Full tail. So far, very well behaved, housebroken and crate trained. Good with other dogs. He is now neutered.

"Josie"

7.5 year old female currently with her owner. Will go into foster care soon if not adopted. Very healthy and active. Very well trained. Good with kids and other dogs. Never been around cats. Exceptional dog.

"Ginger"

There is still the older female that is not being given any attention in her current home. She had lots of training as a young dog as her owner did 4-H activities with her. She is 9 years old, spayed, crate trained and housebroken. She is showing signs of frustration at the lack of attention she is getting. Good with dogs and kids. All signs point to being good with cats.

3- 6 year old male. The breeder was very responsible and took the dog back. However, he needs a home. I believe he is housebroken, good with other dogs and kids. Please contact Pam for more information. No picture available.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER

First of all my apologies for missing both the board and membership meetings. I told everyone that Tega would whelp on the 28th… And she did. I was all packed with whelping materials “just in case” when her water broke. Tega’s decision pulled two board members away. She is fine, the pups are healthy, but I wish she had waited 24 hours. Then again, Sunday was a wet cold day and walking her outside would have been very uncomfortable for all of us!

Next, I want to appreciate our appreciation to Clara Kayser for taking on the Membership Chair job even though she was fighting health issues. She has resigned the job and MVVC is looking for a replacement. If you are interested, please let me know.

The MVVC needs to know what we need to do to help members volunteer to run the events that are the essence of the club. We need to teach newcomers the different jobs and make those who chair/Secty/work at the events know how much they are appreciated!

As you will note by the red in the list below we need some volunteers, or we will not be holding the event. If you are new to the club and want to help, but need mentoring, just let me know.. If you are experienced in running the event and want a mentor, let me know and we will entice the newbies :>)

Be there or let me know if you are willing to chair, secretary, help at any of the following MVVC events.

  • April 8 & 9 MVVC Field Trial - Paul Grice & Greg King are Co-chairs and Jan Wallace offered to be the secretary

May, 2006

  • May 20 MVVC Fun Day – at Theresa Miller’s (info to come)
  • May 20 MVVC Club Meeting

June, 2006

  • June 3 & 4 MVVC Hunt Test - NEED SECRETARY AND CHAIR (s) ASAP
  • June 17 & 18 MVVC Specialty- Pam Williams Chair

August, 2006

  • August 12 MVVC/VCGC Versatility
  • August 12 MVVC Club Meeting

September, 2006

  • Sept 9 & 10 MVVC Walking Field Trial- NEED SECRETARY AND CHAIR(s) ASAP

October, 2006

  • Oct 14 & 15 MVVC Field Trial - NEED SECRETARY AND CHAIR(s) ASAP
  • Oct 17-27 VCA National Events – Dover, DE

I think I got all the dates right-if the corresponding date calendar is right…

I will not see you at the May meeting… As usual I have a vacation conflict (we have got to work on changing the meeting date, as I cannot change the May trip dates).

Happy hunting, showing, competing or just being with your Vizsla!

MVVC President
Rhoda Ezell
