Please Read This before considering purchasing a Vizsla puppy. This is why we have Vizslas in rescue. This is a report of less than 12 months of rescues handled by MVVC Rescue. |
What is Vizsla rescue?
Miami Valley Vizsla Club, Inc. Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding good homes for Vizslas in need. We have been doing Vizsla Rescue since at least 1999 as a formal part of the club's organization. We obtain Vizslas from animal shelters or owners unable to keep their dog any longer. Rescue organizations work out of a love for the breed and finance rescue efforts themselves. In many cases, rescue animals require veterinary care incurring significant cost. This cost is paid for out of funds from placement of other Vizslas, and from donations from Vizsla enthusiasts
MVVC, Inc. Rescue also tries to serve as an educational vehicle about the breed for prospective pet owners, thereby ensuring a good owner/pet match, and as a preventative tool to circumvent future rescue problems. Aids and informational material to determine if a Vizsla is right for you are available on this web site in the Breed Information page as well as this page via various links.
All dogs that go through MVVC, Inc. rescue care are adopted with a written contract and may be returned to MVVC, Inc. at any time. All dogs placed through MVVC, Inc. Rescue will be microchipped with MVVC, Inc. Rescue as the primary contact.
Adoption Cost
The current cost of adopting one of our rescue Vizslas is $250.00, which meets normal costs incurred during animal rescue. This cost is subject to change due to circumstances that may arise above and beyond normal rescue conditions. If the adopted Vizsla is older than 7 years of age, the adoption fee is reduced. Our older citizens make wonderful companions, and frequently are just as active as a youngster. They need a forever home as well!
Rescue Vizslas
MVVC, Inc. is active only in purebred Vizsla placement. Unfortunately we have neither the volunteers nor the funds to include mixed breeds in our work load. Rescue animals of mixed lineage are supported through other rescue organizations. If MVVC, Inc. has knowledge of a mixed rescue in need of a home and you are interested, we will be happy to share that information with you.
Due to the overall nature of rescue, our Vizslas rarely have papers. But we are happy to help you get AKC papers that will allow you to compete in performance events. Should a question arise of whether a dog is pure bred; an evaluation will be completed by a member of the MVVC, Inc.
The age of our rescue Vizsla varies. It is rare to have a puppy come into rescue. Most of our rescues are between 3 and 7 years of age. All rescue vizslas are spayed or neutered prior to placement and are passed through behavioral evaluations by one or more MVVC, Inc. Rescue volunteers.
Considering Adopting a Vizsla? Here's How!
An adoption application is available by contacting one of our committee members, or by submitting the Adoption Application available under the Rescue Form link. Send it to a Volunteer listed on the form. You will be contacted when your application is received and we will keep you aware of the current status of available Vizslas.
Placing a Vizsla?
If you are looking to PLACE a Vizsla into MVVC, Inc's Rescue Program, please contact one of the committee members who will discuss our policy and procedures for intake and filling out the intake form. If this is an owner/finder turn in, a transfer of ownership and release of liability form must be signed. There is frequently a "Turn-in Fee" associated with placing a dog into MVVC, Inc. rescue. To turn a dog into rescue, we need to have a current negative heart worm test, up to date on shots, spayed or neutered before it can be placed. Please include a recent picture if at all possible. MVVC, Inc. will not buy Vizslas in order to get them into the rescue system. This encourages volume/mass breeders and puppy mills to breed more Vizslas to end up in rescue. MVV,C Inc. will not buy puppies from pet stores or auctions.
See a Vizsla in a Shelter?
Please contact one of the MVVC, Inc. rescue workers with information on the shelter and any pics of the dog. Many times shelters claim the dog is a Vizsla, but they are often self-colored pit mixes. These dogs also are rust with rust noses.
